The Boy Scouts of America has put forth a philosophy of teaching the boys involved in Scouting about themselves, their communities, society and much, much more. Part of this teaching philosophy is used as the basis for the concept of Merit Badges. Merit Badges are awarded to Scouts as they learn about and prove their knowledge about differing subjects. In each case, the Scout learns about a topic by activity learning and participating in activities related to the subject matter. At this time there are 120 Merit Badges Available for Scouts to learn about and earn.
Below is a listing of the current Merit Badges. The listingalphabetical and each Merit Badge Name is itself a link to the National BSA details about the specific badge. Badges highlighted in tan/brown are those required for the rank of Eagle Scout.
Scouts needing to find/contact a counselor can see the Troop Advancement Chair for names, phone numbers and e-mail information.
Additionally, throughout the year some of Troop 2's and other local counselors offer Merit Badge classes so that more than one Scout may work on and earn a badge. The class sizes and structure are up to the individual counselors. Stay tuned throughout the Scouting year for more information on these opportunities!
