Summer Camp 2006 Daily Diaries
Camp Resolute - Bolton, MA
Diary home SUNDAY Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Sunday, July 16th Troop 2 Diary:
HELLO from Camp Resolute!
Well, Sunday is over and I should say it went off pretty good for a first day of camp. We had no real issues and the boys are "getting their feet wet... some literally.
The day started early for the Scouters/Adult volunteers who arrived at camp at 8:30 AM to begin the process of bringing the Troop's gear up to our site for the week, Cherokee. After getting the gear there it was time to unload the trailer, set up the garage canopies, the screen tents and our own gear.
All said and done, we were finished about 11 AM and had some time to rest.
The fun started as Scouts and their families arrived at the camp parking lot right on time at 12:30 PM. The they had to lug their gear to the site led by our guide... our own SPL Matteo who is a staffer this year at camp. In fact Many Troop 2 Scouts and alumni are on staff here at Camp. You might here mention of more of them as the week's notes go on.
Then it was time to and begin setting up their own tents. Old Scouts and new Scouts alike got the job done and we were off to a good start. The afternoon was spent getting grilled by the Health Lodge staff (only kidding ladies), going to the waterfront for Swim tests then beginning the rounds of orientation. We had the tour and rules for the dining hall, the ranges and the waterfront.
Opening ceremonies were that evening led by the Camp Commissioner, Troop 2's own Sean Riley, who is a former Eagle Scout with the Troop and is now an Assistant Scoutmaster with us! After that we were off to dinner... PIZZA!!
The evening was topped by a quick Troop Meeting where Mr. Armata advised the Scouts of the rules of camp, the message board, site rules and the activity plans for the week. He also reminded them to be "Clear and Copious." We also gave them the advisory that some afternoon events may indeed be cancelled during the week due to the heat index being too high. If so, Scouts will be advised to get to the waterfront and cool down in the swimming area.
Taps were at 10 PM, and by about midnight when this camper was falling asleep all were out and getting some much needed rest for the remainder of the week!
Stay tuned for more news... pcitures of Sunday's events will be posted later Monday afternoon if all works as planned!
