Summer Camp 2007 Daily Diaries
Camp Resolute - Bolton, MA
Diary home SUNDAY Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Sunday, July 15th Troop 2 Diary:
HELLO to all from Camp Resolute!
Well, Sunday is over and despite the evening's events, it was a good day overall.
The day started early for the Scouters/Adult volunteers who arrived at camp at 8 AM to begin the process of bringing the Troop's gear up to our site for the week, Cherokee. After getting the gear there it was time to unload the trailer, set up the garage canopies, the screen tents and our own gear.
All said and done, we were finished about 10 AM and had some time to rest.
The fun started as Scouts and their families arrived at the camp parking lot right on time at 12:45 PM. The they had to lug their gear to the site led by our guide, our buddy Phil from Troop 2.
Opening ceremonies were a bust... yes that lovely rain storm that came through the area visited Camp Resolute in full force on Sunday. We heard the rumblings in the distance and thought it may pass us by, it did for a while, but soon it got a little darker... then a little darker... then really dark and then the skies opened up on us. Soon the Troop was running through the monsoon to the dining hall for safety.
Unfortunately the storm also knocked down a few trees in camp, including one at the entrance which fell onto someone's vehicle and took out the power, phone and cable lines into camp. So we were in the dining hall without power, which meant no lights, no fans, and worst of all, no ovens.
Soon the staff got a generator up and running we had a couple of lights and they fired up the ovens. Of course by then Mr. Armata and Mr.Sobierajski had put plan "B" into effect and run out to the store for some grub... the Troop had pasta and sauce at the dining hall. Eventually about four hours after entering the hall the Scouts were released and went back to Cherokee where some hot dogs and watermelon were awaiting them.
Remember, it never rains at Summer Camp... of course a rather heavy dew is seen every now and then...
Taps were at 10 PM, and by about 11 when this camper was falling asleep all were out and getting some much needed rest for the remainder of the week!
Stay tuned for more news and pictures of the week's events!
