Sunday, July 20th Troop 2 Diary:

HELLO to all of our friends and families at home from Camp Resolute!

Well, Sunday is over and despite the rain overnight, we are all off onto our first full day at camp.

The day started early when I arrived at camp just short of 7:30 AM. No one else was here... nice actually to see a fresh site... before the mayhem. I drove right in, unloaded and setup my tent before anyone else made it in.

The other Scouters began to arrive around 8 AM and we were on our way getting adult tents selected and setup. Then we were off and running on the setup of the camps site itself; garages, screen houses, message board, lanterns, Scouts area, kitchen area, and of course the "Temple of Advancement." Gosh, funny how that music plays in the background when I say that. Or type it in this case.

The adults, despite some hilarious struggles for a few select persons (see the pictures) with the Junior Leadership's screen house/sacred area, went along fine. We were all set and ready for the arrival of the Scouts by about 10:30. Just enough time to send out for some lunch and get on our uni's for the parade entry.

Mr. Armata met the families and Scouts in the parking lot at 12:30 sharp and at 1, our ol' friend Robbie who is on staff led Troop 2 into camp and over to Cherokee.

Mom, Dad, brothers, sisters, grandpas and others helped each Scout get their tent setup. Then it was time to wait in line for medical checkups, which went rather well this year again. After medicals, it was off to orientation where Robbie led the Scouts of Troop 2 around the camp to the ranges, dining hall, waterfront and elsewhere to show the Scouts, old and new alike where everything was and to get their "feet wet."

The Opening ceremonies went off without a hitch, except for my watch alarm going off at 6 PM. Could have sworn I set the thing for 6 AM. Oh well, got a laugh out of it.

Then it was time for our first meal at camp... dinner bread, salad bar, thick and chewy pizza and fresh from the oven warm, gooey, chewy, chocolate chip cookies for dessert. After dinner it was our first experience for many of camp songs at dinner and the evening announcements.

After dinner we were back to camp to get ready for waterfront orientation and then the opening campfire, which this year for the first time included a ceremony where the camp retired some used American Flags and treated us to some more great skits and camp fire songs.

By 9 we were done and back to camp for Mr. Armata's introductory speech with announcements about the rules, regs and events of camp. The boys had a nice evening to get settled...

Then, just as we were getting them off to bed, Mr. Sobierajski and Mr. Armata got the word out that we were in for some nighttime "liquid sunshine." It was a rather heavy dose of sunshine, with some nice glowing skies from the "cloud fireworks." But all said, we were in our tents, no alerts were sounded and we held tight and dry at Cherokee for the night. Little trouble sleeping with the cloud bowling going on and the sunshine hitting the tents at night, but all Scouts were fine and we are all here this morning on Monday ready to have fun and get on with our first full day at camp.

Stay tuned for more news and pictures of the week's events!
