Summer Camp 2008 Daily Diaries
Camp Resolute - Bolton, MA
SUNDAY Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Monday, July 21st Troop 2 Diary:
Our first full day at Camp Resolute!
Made it through the rain the first night... no worries...
The day began with a large contingent of Scouts and adults going for the Polar Bear swim. Refreshing from what I heard... sorry folks, I had to work form camp so I miss it each day.
After that, we had our flag raising ceremony in camp where three of our new Scouts began to learn the finer points about our flag, showing respect for our colors and the meaning behind them. Mr. Pittsley and then Mr. Bradley gave out our morning awards; a new Troop 2 tradition, recognizing those Scouts that show great Scout spirit and/or show how a Scout overcomes adversity.
Our two Scouts recognized this morning were Peter B. and John F. Peter for showing great Scout spirit and John for facing the adversity of his injuries, yet overcoming them by participating fully, if not more.
Then it was off to Merit Badge classes for the first day! Check out the pictures...
After MB time, it was lunch of popcorn chicken, rolls, and more. Then afternoon activities where the Scouts get some time to experience more from camp than just their three selected merit badges.
For dinner it was MLB night! Scouts were allowed to wear the colors of their favorite team rather than their Class A uniforms. Six Scouts from the Troop were the evening color guard and retired the colors before dinner. Check out the movie on the pictures page!
For dinner it was baseball trivia with prizes, music, a slide show of great Red Sox moments and baseball fare for food. Sausage, cheese steak, rolls, fries and strawberry shortcake for dessert.
After dinner it was a rush to get ready for the Aquatics meet. Thanks to Jack for putting his best foot forward and volunteering to be this year's merman! Then it was the events... we'll find out at the end of the week how we fared, but it looked like it went well, with Troop 2 showing its grit in the swimming, big splash, canoe, and other events.
We then had a nice night at Cherokee, where the Scouts relaxed and some went over our work on advancements...
Oh yeah, by the way we had our first advancement at camp on Monday... by dinner time we had Joe S. advance to the rank of Scout! Good going Joe! He's now on his way to Tenderfoot, which he should finish most at camp and have his rank by September's first meetings! AWESOME!
After that busy day, it was all of to bed for a good night's sleep with no rain and some peace and quite.... at least this one Scouter got a good night's sleep.
Well, that's the summary for Monday! More on today's/Tuesday's events tomorrow morning!
Stay tuned for pictures later today... just have to select our postings, crop and edit them then post them to the web...
