Thursday, July 24th Troop 2 Diary:

Rain, Rain GO AWAY!!

Yes... rain, rain, then more rain.

Most of the activities went on for the Scouts, except the waterfront was closed for some time. It did clear up late in the afternoon and we were good for dinner and the Apache relay!

The Scouts prepped, painted themselves up and went on!

For those that are not familiar with the race/relay... it is a multiple scout race where the Troop/Patrol place 11 Scouts in different positions throughout camp and the relay begins. It starts at the main entrance and proceeds throughout the camp ground to three additional foot racers, the last of which passes the baton to a two-person canoe located near the shore of the dining hall.

The canoe then proceeds half way around the pond to the Cub Scout Day Camp waterfront where they pass the baton to a two person row boat, one rower and one passenger. The row boat proceeds around the rest of the pond to the swimmer's platform at Resolute's waterfront. A series of swimmers then hand off the baton to each other until the last Scout, in the beginners area, leaves the waterfront, takes their swim tag and runs to touch the flag pole. Best time of the day wins.

There was some confusion about the course for the canoes, but we think we were good. Coming into the canoes we were I believe in third... then we made up some time coming into the row boats in second place...

Here is where our hopes are usually dashed... you see, I have been coming to camp some four or five years to Resolute. There have been times where we get to the row boats in first place, only to see our rower have issues and we fall off the pace and place third, fourth, etc.

NOT THIS YEAR!

CAM is THE MAN!!

Cameron H., our rower not only did well, he came from second to take a hearty lead into first place where he handed the baton off to our swimmers who finished it up and we won heat 1!!

Never have I seen us do so well. Great job to all the Scouts of the "Hawks" team and a special "HEARTY HO" to our hero Cam who did so well where we have had problems in the past. Also thanks go out to Mr. Rugoletti who worked with Cameron throughout the week on his technique. It all paid off in the end.

The second heat we saw our "B" team go off... they were doing well, and handed off to our rower Adam... he did great making up some time around the pond, but had issues getting backed up to the swimmers dock. There was traffic of boats and he had issues backing up... we came in fourth I believe, but overall the guys on the B team did very well. I can see these guys getting that much better next year with some more practice. Perhaps next year we can take 1 and 2?

After the races, we were off to camp to begin the Boards... had about 10 scheduled, added a few more. Even had three double Boards. Congrats to all the Scouts! While this was going on, our Scouts working on the Communications Merit Badge held a camp fire program. No fire, the wood was too green and much too wet, but they Scouts filled the amphitheater and had fun none the less!

We also had the pleasure of the traditional Rugoletti donuts served post race! They were of course delicious! Thank You Steve!

Well, the Boards and everything wrapped up about 11:30, so it was then lights out to get some nice sleep before we worked on breaking camp on Friday...

See you all Friday at the Court of Honor!
