Committee Meeting Minutes - September 2009

Called to order: 7:05 pm

Chairperson’s Report – P. Sobierajski

• Registration - will begin 9/24 - will end early Dec. - due to council 1st Wed. of Jan. - FEE: in py Committee voted to increase dues by $5 to cover part of cost of new neckerchiefs - during summer 2009, Council raised their dues by $5. Previously, Troop 2 kept $57 per scout and remitted $23 per scout to Council. NOW, Troop 2 will remit $28 to Council and keep the balance of the registration fee decided on by the Committee. Discussion ensued - MOTION: raise dues by $5 (to $85 per Scout) for neckerchiefs only and Troop 2 will realize $52 per Scout for current year. MOTION SECONDED AND PASSED. Adult Scouter dues will be $17 or $22 if they received a neckerchief.
• Several Committee Officer positions need to be filled - Treasurer and Committee Chairperson - the Chairperson will be responsible for “facilitating the Troop”, running the Committee meetings, maintaining paperwork and communicating with Council - P. Sobierajski is kindly going to stay on (although he no longer has a Scout in the Troop) and will continue to manage the website, the charter, the registration and the camp registration. The position of “Quartermaster” will also need to be filled, but there is already a potential volunteer for this position. The Medical Officer position will be taken by L. Williams. The current Med Officer (D. Armata) is putting the files in order and will be handing them over to Lisa.

Treasurer’s Report – via P. Sobierajski - account is in good shape for the upcoming year

Medical Officer Report – D. Armata - last report as med officer - reminder that Health Form needs to be redone each year going forward - all files will be given to L. Williams - THANK YOU TO DEBBIE FOR MANY YEARS OF MED OFFICER SERVICE!

Scoutmaster Report - J. Armata -

• Summer Camp went well - 31 Scouts earned over 100 Merit Badges and 18-19 rank advancements - this was Mr. Armata’s 5th year as Scoutmaster at Camp and the 1st year Troop 2 earned the Distinguished Troop award - Chris H. did a nice job as SPL
• Change to calendar - the Nobscot Orienteering on 10/24 had been canceled - this is Scouting for Food weekend in Milford - R. Amour will coordinate the event - it will be over the Sat./ Sun. instead of two consecutive weekends like last year (which did not work out that well) - S. Vinton-Delmore will contact K. Mahoney about sandwich boards/radio/paper publicity
• Council requested that Troop 2 include the Webelos 1 &2s in more activities - they are included in the following 5: invited to Saturday activities at Resolute 90th Anniversary, Halloween Party, Swim Night, Nobscot Saturday activities, and Louisa Lake.

Outdoor Trips/Activities Report–

• Bumpkin Island - 9/26 to 9/27 - T. Pittsley - slips due in tonight - not for any Scout the least bit homesick - once you are on the island you are there until the chartered ferry comes back the next morning - no running water on island - must carry everything in with you that you will need
• Resolute 90th Anniversary - 10/2 to 10/4 - T. Michelson/M. Fitzgerald - slips went out tonight - due back on Sept. 17th - weekend will be run by same group that ran MassJam last year - M. Fitzgerald will be cooking for the adults and for Troop 2 - Scouts will be staying in Troop tents NOT campsite tents - adults are invited up on Saturday for several activities -
• 5 Mile Hike - 10/10 - J. Crowley - most likely Peppercorn Hill - J. Crowley will be checking on the trails this weekend
• Scouting for Food - 10/24 and 10/25 - R. Amour - see mention in Scoutmaster Report
• Halloween Party - 10/29 - D. Armata - effort to include Webelos and make meetings more “fun” - will incorporate games with scout skills - scouts and adults invited to wear costumes. MOTION : permission to purchase candy/gifts for party up to $75 - MOTION SECONDED AND PASSED
• Veterans Day Parade - 11/11 - J. Bradley will be adult leader - step off will be from Stop N Shop parking lot - more details to follow
• November Campout - still researching a location - hoping to work on rank requirements related to cooking
• Swim Night - 12/4 - K. Elia - Webelos will be invited -
• Patriots Hall of Fame - 12/5 - J. Armata - been in contact with rep at the HOF - reduced cost will be $7 per person - will let them know # of people coming on the tour - will need to carpool - J. Armata contacting Bass Pro Shop possible tie-in
• Holiday Party - 12/17 - M. Fitzpatrick - Bell Tower Room booked
  

  Advancement Report / Service Projects - J. Bradley

• Successful camp rank-wise as noted above

• Mark F. is 99th Eagle

• Rob K. Eagle Board of Review is 9/22 - will probably be 100th Eagle

• John S. - book came back from Council - waiting for date for his BOR

• Chris P. - project done - currently writing it up

• 3 projects in various stages - RJN, Cam H. and Chris B.

• Peter T. Eagle Court will probably be 11/14

• Service Opportunities - Scouting for Food, Water Crisis hours can be counted, Eagle Projects coming up noted above

• Youth Center has 3-4 more possible Eagle Projects - see J. Armata if any Scouts are interested
  
  Quartermaster Report – no report

Fundraising Update – via J. Armata

• Next silent auction will be held November 2010 - start working on donations now - autographed memorabilia etc.
• Spring fundraiser - voluntary to subsidize individual’s camp cost - any ideas welcome

Training Report – J. Armata -

• Several adults approached Jack to do All Leader Basic Training
• If any adult completes any course, please send the certificate of completion to Jack to forward to Nancy Bradley
• Online classes require your Scouting ID# - if you do not have it, email P. Sobierajski, he now keeps the ID#s on the roster

Senior Patrol Leader Report – no report

Old Business –

• Neckerchiefs will be passed out to Scouts that did not receive them at camp
• Scotland trip -no new information

New Business- J. Armata

• A new Disciplinary Policy was passed out at the meeting for review by the Committee - please read and give any comments to J. Armata - once complete it will be added to the Red Book - if you would like to see it and were not at the meeting, please contact the Scoutmaster
• Citizen contacted Mr. Armata about assisting an elderly woman with a disabled son with a “fall clean-up” of her yard - pruning/mowing/fence repair - 3-4 hr. job - asked the Committee if he could present to Scouts for service hours - MOTIONED, SECONDED AND PASSED - D. Fitzpatrick and J. Crowley will follow through and contact citizen, get scouts and schedule date for project
• J. Armata asked Committee for permission to research purchase of new tents - he wants to buy 2 types - Scout tents and Adult tents - the cost will be approximately $2,000 - MOTION to research SECONDED AND PASSED
