"MassMania 2005!!"

Troop 2 - 3rd Crown Scout Group from Inverness Dinner

Thursday evening, October 13th, 2005                                                     << pictures from the evening>>

This evening after much preparation and planning Troop 2 welcomed our guests from Scotland with a reception at the Bell Tower Room of Sacred Heart Church. The dinner served as the Troop's "official" welcome of our visitors to the area by our Scouts, their families and some invited guests.

The evening started with our master of ceremonies for the evening, Dr. Shain, welcoming all our visitors from the 3rd Crown Scout Group of Inverness, Troop 2 Scouts/Scouters, their families and our guests. The 3rd Crown Scout Group of Inverness assisted us in starting the meeting in their tradition by bringing the Scouts and Scouters to "alert" and a salute to the flag. Our own Senior Patrol leader then led the group in the pledge of allegiance in the traditional Troop Meeting opening.

We then welcomed our special guests, Mr. Hirx and Mr. Clark, our representative and former representatives in town and at Council. Also joining us for the evening was our State Representative, Marie Parente. She welcomed all to this wonderful event and spoke of the long Milford and Troop 2 traditions in Scouting and the excellent example our Scouts represent to the youth of each of our communities. Rep. Parente also presented each of the groups, Troop 2 and the 3rd Crown Scout Group, with citations (<<click here>>) from the State House of Representatives recognizing each groups' dedication to Scouting and our joint efforts in the "Hands Across the Sea" program.

Then the groups enjoyed another long time Troop 2 tradition..eating well. As it were, Troop 2 traditionally never goes hungry on any event... that tradition continued as our very own Scoutmaster, Mr. Armata provided all a wonderful Italian meal of pasta, sausage and more! Did I mention the great food?

The group was then asked for a moment of silence in memory of the passing of our longtime friend, Alba Sesona. Alba was always there for Troop 2 to allow us access and provide assistance with the Sacred Heart Bell Tower Room. "Alba" it happens, is also a Gaelic word meaning "Scotland." How appropriate for us to recognize her memory with our friends from her namesake Scotland.

We also took a moment to recognize a special event happening this week. Two of our visitors, Mr. and Mrs. Spence - adult leaders within the 3rd Crown Scout Group, are observing their 25th wedding anniversary during their visit to "the States." Troop 2 recognized this special event and presented them with a "portrait cake" to enjoy at their leisure.

The 3rd Crown Scout Group then provided the Scouts and Leaders of Troop with some special gifts. Each Scout/Scouter was presented with their very own mini tartan made by Mrs. Spence in recognition of their participation tonight. Mr. Scheffler, who along with Mr. MAddison from the 3rd Crown Scout Group, help organized the arrangements for our Scottish friends, was presented with some "MassMania 2005" apparel by our new friends.

Our guests also provided Troop 2 with two very special gifts; first a copy of the letter from the founders of Scotland to the Pope citing the creation of the land of Scotland, in both the original Latin and an English translation. Secondly, the Troop was presented with an inscribed Scottish Claymore (think Braveheart broadsword) donated by Mr. Spence's company, Claymore Dairies.

With Troop 2's turn, our group presented each of our guests with some Troop 2 apparel and other Boston momentos. We then presented the 3rd Crown Scout Group with its own special gift in recognition of their thirst for history, an inscribed Revere Bowl recognizing their visit and their participation in the Hands Across the Sea program.

To conclude the night's events, the Troops were once again called to alert and our Senior Patrol Leader led the groups in Scout Vespers.

Finally, a special Thank You to all those involved, too many to name individually, in the night's events and the program as a whole. Without your efforts, this program would not be possible. We would especially like to recognize Mr. Armata for the great meal, Mr. Scheffler and Mr. Maddison for helping organize the visit of our friends, Mr. Ferraro for his guidance during the planning, our host families for assisting us during our friends' visit, and to all those involved in providing the decorations, meal items, and gifts exchanged this evening. All of your efforts were beyond expectations and provided both groups with many great memories for the future!!

What's that? Looking for picture's of the night's events... of course we have some... <<click here>>.
