"MassMania 2005!!"
Hands Across the Sea Camporee Recap
Friday, October 14th, 2005 << pictures from the weekend>>
Well... we didn't order rain... did someone out there?
Yes it rained... and it rained... and it rained... feels like you're reading Winnie the Pooh huh?
Did we say it rained?
NO WORRIES!!
Rain or not, we are Scouts and we went camping anyway! We were to tent camp in the field near Smokey Pines in Camp Resolute, but we were washed out. So we spent some time in Whitman Hall (the Dining Hall) at Camp Resolute. We were a little wet, but we made do.
The first night, Mr. Fitzgerald and Mr. Novak oversaw the cooking of one superb meal! Orange Chicken, potatoes, corn, apple sauces, cake for dessert... all this writer has to say is that you two can cook for me anytime!! DELICIOUS!!
After dinner and settling down the two Troops got to spend some time together and learn more about each other, each other's cultures, Scouting in our different countries/continents, and we played many a game. Some basketball (in the rain?), there were cards, Yahtzee, backgammon and much more. All in all, despite the weather we all had fun.
Lights out was 11 PM and the Scouts did a great job of settling down and we were all tucked in for reveille at 7 AM Saturday morning!
Saturday, October 15th, 2005:
Well the rain continued, but we were up and enjoyed a hearty breakfast again overseen by our chef for the weekend, Mr. Fitzgerald. There was french toast, hash browns, sausage, cereal, oatmeal and our beloved bug juice.
After our meal prep went on for lunch and then we were off!!
Yes, no matter the weather, the groups were off to Six Flags as scheduled! We arrived, had our sandwiches, chips and drinks and then into the park!
What's this? No rain? Yep! Just after we got there we were surprised to see the rain drifted off and though the park was wet, it was open and the groups were determined to have fun. And fun was had by all... except of course when Mrs. Sobierajski saw that snake!
Well we had fun on the rides, enjoyed some food in the park and had a good time. 7:30 we were off on our return trip to Resolute. Back at Resolute Mr. Sobierajski was nice enough to stay behind and have some nice hot Chicken soup ready for us when we got back! Yum... nice hot soup after a cool day outside!
Note: Some parents may have heard from their Scout or the leaders that we had an accident at Camp Saturday night. A Troop 2 Scout upon return fainted in the Resolute parking lot and was taken to the hospital for a check-up. We are happy to report that the Scout was fine and spent the night at his home with his family after he was released. In fact, the Scout was a "trooper" and returned to camp the next morning for the clean-up and Sunday services.
Sunday, October 16th, 2005:
Sunday morning we enjoyed another fine meal from Mr. Fitzgerald. He and his crew provided a 'Mountain Man' breakfast for all to enjoy!
When finished with breakfast we cleaned up the kitchen, Whitman Hall and packed the Troop gear as well as our own. We even helped out at camp by doing a clean-up project downstairs in Whitman Hall as a little Thank You to Jim the Park Ranger for allowing us use of Whitman Hall during our stay.
After clean-up we played a game of Camp Resolute 'Amazing Race.' Once the race was concluded we all got together in the Chapel area and our special guest of the morning Mr. Rugoletti (a.k.a. "Papa Smurf") sang his traditional morning song to us. After our serenade, he led the Groups in a Sunday service with some help from two our 3rd Crown guests and a Troop 2 Scout.
At the conclusion of services we all departed for Sacred Heart Church to unload the Troop gear and then our Guests from 3rd Crown went home with their host families for a day of rest and relaxation before the depart for their next leg of their journey in New York City.
Thank You to all, especially the adults that came and stayed at camp, as well as those that drove the Scouts to Six Flags and assisted with the planning and preparations of the Camporee!!
We owe you all a debt of Thanks.
