MassJam '03 Weekend RECAP |
Scoutmaster's Note :
I am a bit behind in my duties ...but I wanted to let the parents know that your sons did an OUTSTANDING job at Mass Jam. Despite the terrible weather these young men went out and accomplished everything they were asked and more. I can't begin to tell you how much I was impressed by their behavior, teaming and determination to go a good job.
This is truly an exceptional group of young men. As an old Scoutmaster I know (Papa Smurf) used to say .....'you done good' with these boys. You are to be congratulated for the exceptional son you have raised.
Your ScoutmasterWeekend RECAP:
Saturday:
The Troop left bright eyed, bushy tailed and eager at 6:15 AM Saturday morning (okay, maybe a little white lie in there...) and arrived at camp just after 8 AM. A quick drop of equipment on the run once we were in and the adults were off to the base to park their vehicles. The SPL and Senior Scouts were left in charge while we were gone AND WHAT A JOB THEY DID!The Scouters (Adult Leaders) were impressed to find that when they returned most of the Scout tents were up and they were beginning the assembly of the two "garages" used for the mess tents! The MassJam Commissioners were so impressed at the leadership of the Senior Scouts within the Troop that they named Troop 2 as Honor Patrol for the opening ceremonies and had four of the Scouts from the Troop raise the U.S. and Massachusetts flags during the opening!
The day continued after the opening with the Scouts beginning their participation in the Activities and booths set up for them across the fairgrounds. The day ended for the Scouts with a movie in our sub-camp featuring a half of of the Three Stooges and Remember the Titans.
Sunday:
Overnight... you guessed it, the monsoon set in. We awoke to find a few tents leaking, rivers flowing through camp and rain, rain, rain... Religious ceremonies were moved inside, some of us got inside, some stayed out in the rain, but everyone made it through. Then as services ended the Scouts continued in their quest of completing their activities. The day ended with another evening of the Three Stooges and another movie...Overall no one drowned or was swept away, the Scouts completed their activities and we made it through the day!
Monday:
Monday was a morning of quick packing and eating anything we had left. We all worked and finished everything off. At the closing ceremonies all of the Patrols won their Baden Powell Awards for completing the Activity requirements for the weekend and the Troop was awarded Honor Troop recognition since everyone completed their tasks. Then back to packing, getting vehicles from the base and loading up. We made it back early and went home to nice hot showers, cozy beds and sofas and some well deserved rest!
Congrats and KUDOs to all of the Scouts and Scouters that attended the weekend's events! You all did an OUSTANDING job and have stories to tell about how you battled the elements and made it through the weekend where others less brave gave up and went home early. Tents washed away, rivers and swampland reigned in the mess tent but we all persevered and made it all work out!
You were prepared, you completed the tasks at hand and demonstrated what great Scouts you all indeed are!
