Well, your son has decided to enter Scouting and now you need to get him started on his path.
What does he need?
Where do I get it?
We're here to help. Below you will find some information on what you need to do when, and what to do first. For more information or questions you may have, feel free to contact our Troop 2 Scoutmaster or Parental Contact who assists new Scouts and their parents transition to a life in Scouting.
Troop 2 is a full Class A uniform Troop. Which means that eventually your son/Scout will need a full uniform when participating in Troop events (meetings, campouts, parades, etc.). However the Troop does understand that when first joining the Troop the costs of all the gear at once can be daunting. that is why time is permitted for each family to aquire the needed uniform parts and other gear over a period of time.
First things first, your son will need the following items when first joining the Troop;
The shirt, slide and handbook can be purchased at the Knox Trail Council Scout Shop or online at Scoutstuff.org. Information on both is located below. The neckerchief and Troop 2 council patch will be provided to your son when he first crosses over or joins Troop 2.
Over time your son will also need the following uniform parts;
A class B shirt is a t-shirt worn during events when a class A uniform is not required. It can be a labeled Troop 2 class B t-shirt or a plain t-shirt.
Troop 2 maintains a uniform exchange program and asks all Scouting families to participate. Here as Scouts grow older and bigger, they can turn in their old uniform parts (shirts, pants, etc.) that they no longer fit into. These then can be used by new/younger Scouts. Clothing in stock at the Uniform Exchange depot is free of charge to any Scout that requires the uniform parts. We only ask that your son in turn, donates outgrown clothing for future young Scouts.
Troop 2 also has its own "Boutique." Here Scouting families can find branded Troop 2 gear, including Class B t-shirts, Class B sweatshirts and Troop 2 hats that can be worn at meetings, events and campouts. The cost of this clothing is minimal, the Troop charges only the cost of the garment itself and does not make any additional monies on these materials.
The Troop has created shopping lists and packing lists (one in the same) for Scouts and their families for the general weekend campouts as well as a separate list for Summer camp. These lists will assist the Scouting family in getting fully prepared for all Troop 2 camping events. Links to these forms can be found below.
Scouting families can buy their camping gear at the location of their choice. Many families do not buy the professional branded gear and buy their supplies at local department stores. Some of the available outlets to purchase your camping supplies can be found in the links below.
As always, if a Socut or Scouting parent has question or comments on the Troop 2 gear or uniform requirements, they are encouraged to contact the Troop 2 Scoutmaster or Committee Chairperson to pass on this information.
Thank you and welcome to Troop 2!!
